About Locksure

Locksure makes retrofit door lock monitors: small sensors that fit beside the thumb turn or key you already have and show whether the door is locked or unlocked. Locksure is a trading name of Lockstate Limited, a company registered in England and Wales.

Our story: a family driven solution

Born out of a real-life necessity, our journey began when we recognised the vulnerability of homes, particularly those of elderly residents, to opportunistic thieves. Our founder’s own father-in-law often forgot to lock his front door in a neighbourhood targeted by such criminals.

A smart lock seemed plausible, but the cost, including installation and an additional hub, made it an impractical way to simply know if the door is locked, and remote control over the locking mechanism seemed less secure. So we built a door lock monitor that reports the lock state and leaves the lock alone.

After it worked in our own home, neighbours asked how it could help them remember to lock their doors too. We tested Locksure with our friendly testers and now design, make and support it in the UK.

What Locksure does, and does not do

Locksure sensors report whether a lock has been turned. They do not contain a motor and they are not connected to the lock mechanism, so they cannot lock or unlock your door, and neither can anyone else through them. Your existing lock, cylinder and keys are unchanged, and the insurance rating of your lock is unaffected because nothing about it is modified.

This is a deliberate design decision rather than a limitation. A device that cannot open a door cannot be used to open a door.

There are two ranges. The Original range reports to the Locksure display hub, which comes in every starter pack, and to the Locksure app. The Matter range reports to a smart home you may already have, such as Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings or Home Assistant, and needs one smart home hub.

Registered designs and patents

The designs of both sensor bodies are registered in the UK (6377514 and 6377515) and the European Union (015066113-0001 and 015066113-0002). We hold two UK patent applications covering the retrofit mechanism, GB2402666.8, for which the UK Intellectual Property Office has issued its intention to grant, and GB2607464.1. Neither has been granted yet, so we describe the products as patent pending.

Product security and Matter

Our product security statement under the UK Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) regime is published on our PSTI statement page.

Our Matter devices are built on Nordic Semiconductor’s CSA-certified nRF Connect SDK Matter platform, certificate CSA25001MCPM0001-24. Product-level Matter certification for the Locksure device has not yet been completed; that is a separate certification from the platform one.

How we test

Every Locksure design is turned in both directions, slow and fast, on a motorised rig, measured with a precision power analyser and run for hours on soak tests before it reaches your door.
