Sharing a door with family
Sharing lets someone else see a door in their own Locksure account: an adult child keeping an eye on a parent’s front door, or a partner who wants the same answer at bedtime. It shares what the lock is doing, not control of it. Nobody can lock or unlock anything through Locksure, shared or not.
What the other person needs
- The Locksure app and their own free account.
- Nothing else. They do not need a hub, a monitor or to be on your Wi-Fi.
How to share (Original range)
- Open the Locksure app and tap the share icon on the door’s tile.
- Enter the email address they use for their Locksure account and send the request. The app confirms “Share request sent and awaiting confirmation”.
- They open their app and accept the share request. Until they accept, nothing is shared.
- The door appears in their app with its current state and history, marked as shared by you.
How to share (Matter range)
A Matter sensor lives inside your Apple Home or Google Home, which the other person may not use. To share across accounts you need the Locksure Matter Hub, which keeps the door state in sync for the people you share with. Once the hub is set up, sharing works the same way as above.
If the other person is in the same Apple Home or Google Home as you, you can also simply invite them to your home in that app; the sensor appears for them there. Apple calls this Add People; Google calls it household members.
Removing access
You can revoke a share at any time from the door’s sharing list. The person sharing with you can also remove their own access with Remove Shared Access.
What they can and cannot see
| Door state and time of last change | Yes |
| History | Yes |
| Who turned the lock | No. Locksure records the lock, not the person. |
| Your other doors | No, only the door you shared. |
| Notifications on their phone | No. Alerts go to the owner’s account; the shared person checks the tile and history in their app. |
| Rename the door or change its settings | No. They can only view it, give you a nickname that shows instead of your email, or remove their own access. |
| Your address or location | No. |
| Lock or unlock the door | No. There is no motor. |
Can I share with more than one person?
Yes. Send a request to each person.
Does the person I share with get notifications?
No. Notifications go to the owner’s account only. The shared person sees the door’s current state and its history whenever they open their app.
Can my parent share their door with me if they do not use a phone?
Yes. Set the system up in your own account on a visit, with the hub at their house. Then there is nothing for them to do. The hub shows them the door; your app shows you.
