The Locksure Matter Hub: what it adds and how to set it up

Your Matter sensors work fully in Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings or Home Assistant without any Locksure hub. The Locksure Matter Hub is optional. It sits alongside your smart home hub and adds the things Matter does not do on its own.

What it adds

  • A display. A round touchscreen showing up to four doors, for the hall or kitchen.
  • Longer history. A sensor keeps its last few dozen events on board. The hub collects them continuously into your Locksure account, so the app can show months rather than minutes.
  • Left-home alerts. A push notification if you leave home with a door reported unlocked, with no need for your phone to be on home Wi-Fi.
  • Sharing across accounts. Share a door with someone on a different Apple Home or Google Home account. See Sharing a door.
  • One door for Key Turn. Assign the inside and outside sensors to one Locksure door, so the door follows the lock whichever side was used.

What it is not

It is not a Thread border router and not a Matter controller for your home. You still need one smart home hub. It cannot lock or unlock anything, and it does not replace Apple Home or Google Home; your existing automations keep working.

Setting it up

  1. Pair your sensors with your smart home hub first (Pairing a Matter sensor).
  2. Plug the hub in with the USB cable, somewhere central with a good Wi-Fi signal.
  3. In the Locksure app tap +, choose Locksure Hub, then MatterHub. The app finds it over Bluetooth. A hub fresh from the box, or just reset, stays in pairing mode for about 15 minutes.
  4. Send your Wi-Fi name and password (2.4 GHz).
  5. Choose the doors the hub should show (up to four; a Key Turn pair counts as one) and assign each sensor to a door.
  6. iPhone: the app then adds the hub to your Apple Home so it can read your sensors; approve the prompt when it appears. Android: the app connects the hub to Locksure directly over Bluetooth; it does not appear in Google Home. The hub restarts and begins showing your doors.

Settings that show PENDING

Sensors sleep to save battery, so a change you make in the app is queued and shows as PENDING until the sensor next wakes, usually at the next lock turn. Turn the lock and the setting applies.

If the hub loses contact

If a sensor has not been heard from for about seven minutes the screen keeps the last known state and shows “Reconnecting to lock”. The hub retries on its own, waiting a little longer each time (up to about three minutes between tries), and restarts itself if nothing has recovered after a while. If it shows “Lock not responding”, take the sensor’s battery out and put it back. If the hub has been removed from Apple Home without the hub knowing, no restart will fix it: factory reset the hub from its settings in the Locksure app and add it again. See Hub offline.

Resetting the hub

Three ways, all with the same result: in the Locksure app, open the hub’s settings and choose Factory Reset Hub; or touch and hold the hub’s screen for about three seconds and choose Factory Reset; or hold the button on the hub for more than ten seconds. A reset clears Wi-Fi and door assignments, and the hub goes back to SETUP ready for the app.

More than one Locksure Matter Hub

You can have more than one, for example one per floor. Add each in the same way and choose which doors it shows.

Do I need the Locksure Matter Hub?

Not for lock state. If you only want the door’s state in your home app, the sensors alone are enough. Add the hub for history beyond the last few dozen events, left-home alerts, a hall display, or sharing with someone outside your home app.

Does the hub work if my phone is off?

Yes. Once set up, the hub watches the sensors itself and keeps your account up to date over Wi-Fi, with the app closed or the phone away.
