Pairing a Matter sensor with your smart home
Every Locksure Matter sensor ships with a pairing QR code on a card in the box. Keep that card: you need it to pair, and again if you ever reset the sensor. You also need one compatible smart home hub already set up and online.
Before you scan
- Fit the sensor on the door first and check it flashes when you turn the lock. See the Matter Thumb Turn guide.
- Stand next to the door with your phone. Bluetooth is used for the start of pairing.
- The sensor is open for pairing for about three minutes after it wakes. If the sensor’s lights have stopped flashing during setup, take the battery out for a few seconds and put it back. The sensor starts setup again. If you pressed the settings pin, check afterwards that locking shows locked; if not, see Changing the setting in the fitting guide.
- Key Turn: pair one sensor at a time. Keep the other one’s battery out.
Apple Home (iPhone or iPad)
- Open the Home app, tap +, then Add Accessory.
- Scan the QR code on the card.
- Tap Add to Home when the Locksure sensor is found. Apple may warn that the accessory is not certified; Locksure’s product-level Matter certification is in progress, and you can choose to add it anyway.
- Choose a room and a name, such as Front Door.
- Lock and unlock once and watch the tile.
Apple Home needs a HomePod mini, HomePod (2nd gen) or a listed Apple TV 4K shown as Connected under Home Settings, Home Hubs and Bridges. Sharing the home with family is done with Add People in Home Settings.
Google Home (Android or iPhone)
- Open Google Home, tap +, then set up a new device.
- Scan the QR code.
- Follow the prompts to add it to your home and pick a room.
Google Home needs a Nest Hub (2nd gen), Nest Hub Max, Nest Wifi Pro, Google TV Streamer (4K) or Google Home Speaker on the same network. If Google reports no border router found, see Pairing problems.
Amazon Alexa
- Open the Alexa app, go to Devices and add a device, choosing the Matter option.
- Scan the QR code and follow the prompts.
Alexa needs an Echo with Thread, such as the Echo (4th gen), Echo Show 8 (3rd gen) or Echo Hub. An Echo Dot or Echo Pop on its own cannot pair a Thread device.
SmartThings
In the SmartThings app, tap +, Add device, and scan the QR code. You need a SmartThings Station, an Aeotec Smart Home Hub or a Samsung TV with a Thread-capable SmartThings hub built in.
Home Assistant
Settings, Devices and services, Add integration, Matter, then scan the code with the companion app. Thread must be enabled on your ZBT-1, ZBT-2 or Yellow through the OpenThread Border Router add-on first. Our Home Assistant guide walks through it.
Adding the sensor to a second home app
Matter lets one sensor be shared with more than one controller. In the app where it is already paired, find the sensor’s settings and choose its option to pair with another app (Apple calls it Turn On Pairing Mode; Google calls it Link apps and services), then add it in the second app with the code shown. Each app still needs its own compatible hub.
The Locksure app
On iPhone, the Locksure app can do the Apple Home pairing for you: tap +, choose Lock Sensor and follow the steps. On Android, pair in Google Home first, then return to the Locksure app within a few minutes and tap Continue.
Re-pairing after a reset
If you remove the sensor from your home app, it resets itself and returns to pairing mode; add it again with the same QR card. To reset it by hand, hold the settings pin in for about ten seconds or more: the sensor is removed from your smart home and returns to setup mode. A short press of the pin only changes the fitting setting, and holding it for a few seconds does nothing, so it is safe to let go. If you are asked by Locksure support to put the monitor into update mode, we will tell you how. The Locksure Matter Hub, if you have one, needs the door reassigned afterwards.
Pairing fails?
Most failures are the hub, not the sensor: wrong model, offline, or two different Thread networks in the house. Work through Pairing problems.
