Fitting the Key Turn monitors (Original range)
The Key Turn pack has two monitors because a key-both-sides lock can be turned from either side. You fit one inside and one outside, the same way. Allow fifteen minutes. Check first that both sides of the door pass the three fit checks.
Each step has a short silent video. Watch it, then do the step.
1. Plug in the Display Hub
Buying another? Key Turn Starter Pack £99.99
Peel the yellow backing from the back of the hub and stick the hub onto a suitable USB plug (any USB power socket or phone charger that gives 5 V at 1 A), then plug in the supplied cable. Put it within about 5 to 7 metres of the door, with as few walls in between as possible. You will add the door on the hub and join it to Wi-Fi from the app at the end; see Hub setup and Wi-Fi.
2. How the Key Turn monitor fits
The monitor sticks to the flat lock plate directly below the cylinder. A key disc, a thin ring carrying the sensing magnet, sticks to the face of the cylinder with the key passing through it, so that turning the key turns the magnet past the monitor’s sensors. The box contains three key discs: one for the inside monitor, one for the outside monitor and a spare.
3. Clean the surfaces
Wipe the plate below the barrel and the face of the cylinder with the supplied wipe. Let them dry.
4. Test the bracket(s)
Brackets in the box take up a barrel that stands proud by up to about 6 mm. Try the monitor with and without a bracket until about 1 mm of the barrel is exposed in front of the monitor face.
5. Insert the battery
Push the thick end of the wooden tool into the hole on the side of the monitor, straight in, until the battery case opens on the other side. Fit the CR2032 with the + symbol facing outwards, then close the case.
6. Remove the backing tape
Peel the backing from the bracket you chose in step 4.
7. Fit the bracket(s)
Press the bracket onto the clean plate, centred under the barrel, for 20 seconds.
8. Fit the monitor
Peel the monitor’s backing, locate the cut-out around the barrel and stick it over the lock, pressing firmly for 20 seconds. Full adhesive strength takes about 24 hours.
9. Fit the key disc
Peel the backing tape from a key disc, pass the key through it in one of the orientations the clip shows, insert the key into the lock, and press the disc against the cylinder face for 20 seconds. The disc carries the magnet the monitor reads.
10. Adjust to sync with the lock
Lock the door with the key and watch the monitor: it should flash cyan. Unlock: amber. The flashes must be in sync with the lock. If nothing flashes, check the disc is seated against the cylinder and turns with the key. If the colours are reversed, use the settings pin: see “Change the setting” below and What the lights mean.
11. Repeat steps 3 to 10 on the outside
Fit the second monitor on the outside of the door the same way. The hub treats both monitors as one door, so whichever side turns the key, the door’s state updates.
12. Install the app and add the door
First add the door on the hub: touch and hold the hub’s screen until its setup menu appears, choose DOORS, then ADD NEW DOOR. The hub shows DOOR SEARCH for the INSIDE monitor, then for the OUTSIDE one: turn the key from that side each time. Then download the Locksure app (App Store or Google Play) and follow Hub setup and Wi-Fi, then App setup.
Change the setting (if the hub shows the opposite state)
Locks differ in which way they turn to lock, and in which side of the door each monitor sits. The settings pin on the side of each monitor sets both. A short press with the settings tool moves the monitor to its next fitting setting (there are four); the monitor saves it and restarts itself. Then lock and unlock the door and check the hub or app shows locked (cyan) when the door is locked. If it still reports the wrong way round, press once more and test again. After four presses you are back where you started. The pin has no other function on the Original monitor.
